Acne scarring refers to lasting changes in the skin after acne has healed. Scars may appear as indentations, raised areas or changes in texture; flat red or brown marks left after spots are not always true scars but can still take time to fade.
What causes acne scarring?
Scarring is more likely when acne causes deep inflammation that damages the skin's supporting collagen. Picking or squeezing spots, delayed treatment and a tendency to form raised scars can increase the risk.
